This is why Lyocell fabric t-shirts will make you happy
We see more and more on our T-shirt labels: Lyocell, an essential ingredient! Lyocell fabric is one of the most eco-responsible textiles. But what exactly is Lyocell fabric? And what are the benefits? As a lover of sustainable fashion, I will be happy to tell you more about this fabric while giving you washing advice, not forgetting to mention my favorite clothes made of Lyocell offered in our collection.
What is Lyocell and Tencel fabric?
Lyocell is a very durable material, the fibre of which is produced from wood pulp and, therefore, of plant origin. It is also known as Tencel, the manufacturer's trademark name, which can be confusing because it is the same fibre. Nice to know! Wood is a natural and sustainable material, but on the other hand, the environmental footprint of lyocell manufacturing is tiny, as the dissolved chemicals involved in its creation are non-toxic. In addition, Lyocell is produced in a closed circuit: the solvent used in the process is recovered and reused. So treat yourself to a Fabric that is not only very comfortable but also very eco-friendly by choosing Lyocell or Tencel.
Is the Lyocell fabric t-shirt comfortable?
Due to their delicate satin appearance, Lyocell fabric t-shirts have often been compared to silk. Apart from the environmental aspect of Lyocell, this fibre offers many advantages: it is very soft and supple to the touch, very resistant, more absorbent than cotton, and completely biodegradable. Another advantage: this T-shirt is warm in winter and pleasantly cool in summer thanks to its breathability. In short, it is a lovely fabric to wear all year round!

Apart from its environmental aspects, lyocell fabric has many other advantages. I've put them together below:
- Lyocell offers great resistance and elasticity, making it a durable fabric: you'll enjoy your favourite Lyocell t-shirt for years.
- Soft like linen or silk, lyocell t-shirts are very pleasant and especially suitable for sensitive skin.
- Lyocell offers high moisture absorption, so it's the perfect fabric t-shirt if you sweat a lot
- On the other hand, its breathability creates an antibacterial effect, making it an anti-odour t-shirt.
- Lyocell does not crease as quickly as other fabrics (no need for hours of ironing).
Does Lyocell make you sweat?
The answer is: No! If you held this fabric in your hand, it would feel like a sweaty cloth. That's not to say that Lyocell doesn't resist sweat, but it has several advantages that make it an ideal fabric for summer.
- It Neutralizes Odor: We love to avoid the smell of sweat. Bacteria grow 2000 times less on Tencel than on synthetic fibres, making it a favourite material for underarms in summer.
- It dries quickly: Lyocell is an excellent moisture-wicking material. Because it is made from wood, Lyocell has a high moisture absorption capacity, so Lyocell clothes dry very quickly.
- It's breathable: Lyocell's breathability is one of its many advantageous properties. Its excellent temperature-regulating properties keep you feeling cool, which many synthetic fibres do not. A real asset!
How do you wash your Lyocell t-shirts?
Lyocell fabric t-shirts are machine washable. We prefer a low-temperature wash with a program for delicate laundry. A deep-coloured woven lyocell fabric (therefore less stretchy than woven Lyocell) may be too fragile for more aggressive programs or laundry products. Always check your t-shirt labels before washing: t-shirts can be mixed with other fibres so that care procedures may differ slightly from 100% lyocell / tencel t-shirts. If you decide to hand wash it, do it in cold water with a detergent for delicate laundry and remember not to wring the fabric but gently squeeze it to remove it. It avoids damage.
Due to its almost wrinkle-resistant qualities, Lyocell must not be ironed. This is an excellent asset because ironing is not my favourite. ;-) If your Lyocell clothing is still wrinkled, use a steam iron. If you don't have one, you can use the steam from your iron by holding your t-shirt up without touching it. Otherwise, iron it inside out on low heat and with a pressed cloth between your t-shirt and the iron.
